Trying to help myself remember what the agreements are, I came up with IPAD. Impeccable in your word, don't take anything Personally, don't make Assumptions, always Do your best.
Faith in these principles, along with determination, parallel faith in Christ and offer an opportunity for a second birth.
They are designed to help undermine our conditioned relationship with the world and allow us to make choices out of our personal authentic being, rather than ceding our power to the prevailing circumstance. (be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.)
Others have done it, I myself have done it, says the author, and you can too.
My guess is it has given false and passing hope to the vaguely discontented more than it has been the highway to heaven its touted to be.
And I see no reason why a serious sociopath couldn't embrace it as a framework for his life.
It seems pretty clear it is a permission to walk away from a marriage, and a variety of things with a whiff of loyalty about them, that isn't the dream of happiness that would be preferred. When to say yes, and when to say no. Good question.

I’ve read this book twice because I loved it so much. Get ready to do some introspection when you read it though. It is a nice quick read that digs right in. The principles Miguel Ruiz writes about are easy to apply to your everyday life to live more mindfully and happily. And he has several more titles if you find like this one.

Needed to read every word. I’ll buy this book and go back to it often.

Great book which has an accompanying separate workbook with exercises. Also has several other books you may want to check out!

An easy to read book which has good ideas on how to approach each day. I have added several notes from this book which I read to myself to attempt to ingrain in my mind. Interesting section regarding the “domestication” of most folks’ lives. One of my sayings to myself is “I am not domesticated.”

I was really looking forward to this book. I read it in one day since it's a very thin book. I felt glimpses of inspiration but there is nothing ground breaking or life changing in these pages. I usually take notes from the self help books that I read but I found that there wasn't really anything super inspirational or helpful that I wanted to take note of and remember. It might spark some inspiration within you but perhaps this book was not for me.

A worthwhile little book – four simply told rules for living a caring and responsible life. And they’re reasonable commonsense rules …odd that we need to be reminded, but we do. I read it slowly over a few weeks, digesting, absorbing, attempting to incorporate these guidelines into daily life. It will be a book worth revisiting every now and then.

Simple rules to live by but almost nobody does. I really liked the reminders this book offers and Ruiz wrote it in a way that not a single person can claim to 'not get it'. I'm not a fan of spiritual language and but I can get over myself enough to see that this for what it actaully is, methods of communicating the most basic of ideas so that people can see themselves in his examples. If everyone 'lived by the four agreements' I think the world would be significantly more tolerable because people really are ruled by fear and self-pity and the need to abuse others. I don't see why everyone shouldn't have to read this every once in a while.
