I didn't especially care for the format this author used, but stuck with it to the end. I've not known much about leprosy, so this was a kind intro into the shame associated in the mid-20th C. I was fascinated with the characters life as a diver, something that gave me chills & dread of the alien world. Having to give up her passion, being shunned by family and all society was well explained. My only other knowledge of this disease is Father Damien of Hawaii, some from childhood church stores. The subject rather opens another subject to peruse. Plus I like Japanese names/words, the ease of pronouncing & sound.
