Released in 1980, "Melvin and Howard" is one of those small budget, bittersweet, quirky, slice-of-life films that Hollywood should still be producing but doesn't. Young viewers will be confused. Melvin is a milkman; a job that young viewers will not comprehend. I would rate "Melvin and Howard" at 4.0 stars. This film won the National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Film of 1980.

Enjoyable Jonathan Demme film- one of his low-key character studies of the " average american ".

Unless my memory is playing tricks on me this is based on actual events. I vaguely recall after Howard Hughes died this will and this general story being briefly in the headlines. Fact is there never was another will, but this one got thrown out by the court. Shouldn't have made any difference if $156 million of a man so rich without heirs and a will went to whomever, any of us. Or all of us. Why not let someone who doesn't have anything win the lottery instead of all the folks who already are so rich they put all their money up their noses. Decent movie, generally fun. I enjoyed it.

I'd like to thank the Academy for making me think this would be worth watching. Not really. It was pretty much a character study of a relatively uninteresting guy.

Interesting story - didn't know it was based on true events; wild ! A little slow at times, or perhaps I just don't have the patience for this kind of plot-story.
