Shot on location in the snowy region of Hokkaido. Since the death of his wife, sake producer Nobuo Honma lives with his youngest son. Each day, he takes a walk in the winter snow to visit the fish-breeding center. Nobuo's routine disrupted when he asks his oldest son to come to Hokkaido.

muted story of a dysfunctional family, muted colours with bright white snow and everpresent Ozu-like slashes of red. emotions are closed in like the salmon fingerlings in the drawers at the hatchery - all waiting to be set free to mature and eventually to return home.

Uninspired plot about a dysfunctional family in a tiny Northern Japanese town ... Central character was a controlling 70 year old widower who walked on a snowy path everyday to see the salmon fries and a young woman in the town's hatchery.
