Maggie Carpenter is known as a heart breaker and is played by Julia Roberts. Having already left three different men at the alter, journalist Ike Graham played by Richard Gere, has dubbed her the Runaway Bride. After learning that she is getting ready for her fourth wedding, Ike flies to her so that he can report on the event. Unexpectedly, he falls for the beautiful heart breaker and begins to question why it is that she always runs. This romantic comedy is a classic in the terms of an outrageous 1930’s romance film kind of feel. Released in 1999 and directed by Gary Marshall, this movie is one for the books.

Maggie Carpenter (Julia Roberts) is known as the runaway bride, as she has left three grooms at the altar. Ike Graham (Richard Gere) is a journalist who is recovering from his divorce. Their lives are intertwined when Ike writes a very exaggerated and sexist article about Maggie. As a result of the inconsistencies and offensive information in his column, his boss decides to fire him. Determined to get his old job back and to save his reputation, Ike travels to Maggie’s hometown to watch and document her fourth wedding, in which he is convinced that Maggie will run again. Although reluctant at first, Maggie lets Ike into her daily life. Through time, they become closer and as expected, they fall for one another. In this movie, Julia Roberts proves once again that any movie she stars in is not a disappointment.

Director Garry Marshall tries to recapture the success of PRETTY WOMAN with this silly popcorn flick. It's fluffy and dopey and relies on the heavy-handed stereotypes that make this genre of film disappointing. Although the idea of the runaway bride is at least creative, it is executed poorly here. With none of the charm of PRETTY WOMAN, this unmemorable race-to-or-from-the-wedding rom-com is a touch too tacky to ever garner long-lasting attention. I wouldn't recommend it.

Decent romantic comedy, but little more.

Very funny, good chemistry between the leads.
