Eleanor and a group returning from a journey through Norfolk take shelter from a rainstorm and after the nun in their party falls gravely ill. Eleanor and her companions receive a warm welcome, but soon realize not all is well at the manor. A groom is murdered and the cook is accused of his murder, Eleanor and her friend, Brother Thomas, can't help to investigate what they see as convenient rush of judgment by the local sheriff. As the death toll mounts, they discover any number of suspects among the manor's household.
