Last year I shared a drink with Jim at La Pere Chaise cemetery in Paris. I brought a bottle of Jack Daniels. I swigged some and then poured some on his grave. I believe he burped "Thanks, man".

Almost exclusively archival video, there are things in here I (remarkably, as a long-time Doors fan) have never seen. Depp is deadpan-perfect for this piece which is certainly sympathetic to Morrison and the way things spun out of control for him. The bonus features include reflections from his sister and father, the latter of which is quite surprising in its tone of acceptance; the two men played no part in each other's lives after Jim left for college, and played only passing roles up to that point. As they say in the movie review biz: "if you're going to watch a video introduction to The Doors, this is the one to see." Not flawless, but comprehensive and well-constructed.

Jim Morrison is a phenominal writer and man can he light up a microphone. Johnny Depp is also a captivating narrarator.

The Doors were amazing. And often under rated or forgotten about in todays modernities (think i just made that word up).

I still am surprised at how much Jim did in his life including schooling and how he wasnt even 28 when he died (If i remember correctly). Somehow though they had the sound and full package with messages and meanings that cant be denied. Hopefully someone can carry Jim's torch of profound poetry one day and lead more people to the universal truth and away from "bling bling bling me me me"

I love Jim Morrison, and I love The Doors, but this documentary was just alright. I loved the old footage that they used of Jim driving in the desert and how that tied the film together, but I did not love the constant focus on Jim's addictions. Yes, we all know he had many, but I would have rather seen that time in the doc spent on the music, the inspirations and other cool facts about The Doors. If you are a Doors fan, you should definitely see this film, you will learn new things about the band for sure.

Not the best Doors documentary, if you want to hear Johnny Depp's rendition of Jim Morrison's writing you might like it.
