Brilliant film to watch for anyone in discovery of ones' self. Mixed episodes of psychological, spiritual and societal norms. Don't be in a hurry to get through this one as it is slow and confusing at times, but definitely worth the wait.

Aug 4 2016, I ordered this movie because I wanted to see Ed Norton in something else. (I had just watched 'The Illusionist")......Two very different roles, and I found both believable.....pretty good acting I think. But.....this movie pretty much was a loser for me. I have to agree that the sex scenes were just creepy, and I'm just not too sure what happened in the end. Maybe I fell asleep for a bit and missed something? Anyway, skip this one, or just save it for a time when you have absolutely nothing better to do!

very boring, did not finish the movie, great actors but they are to old to be playing cops, even ones close to retirement.Deniro's relationship with female cop at least 35-40 years younger then him was down right creepy, the sex scenes were very creepy ...thumbs down on this one

It dragged on, it was boring and Robert De Niro wasn't believable in his role; the convict was more intelligent than he was and he thought more with his pants than what his job expected.
As always, they try to bring in religion to clean up the mess with little results.

Three excellent actors, if you include the wife. Biggest problem I saw: Jack was less than believable. Anyone who has worked in the penal system (as I have) would be offended by his portrayal as an inept, foolish old man. Just doesn't happen that way. But, that said, De Niro did well with the mushy script he had to work with.
Next serious flaw: the so-called Christian theme underlying the plot. "Be still and know that I am God" was described as an ancient Scripture that simply means that God moves in a mysterious way? Psalm 46 is a whole lot more than that. The interpretation is irritating and stupid. What King David was really saying: shut up long enough to receive inspiration from God, Who will answer all questions, bestow all knowledge, and give thee answer to your prayers. The movie left the blind leading the blind, to where Jack had little or no understanding of what Stone was trying to say, and zero comprehension as to how to correct his misconstruction of what life, sin, repentance and real Christianity is all about. I went away with the notion that the folks creating this film intentionally panned religion and the penal system in general. THAT makes the whole effort phony, and dishonest.

Loved this movie 'cause it really put you in the vantage point of both main characters & see who in the end was the master manipulator.

De Niro plays an unsympathetic character who is manipulated by another unscrupulous man in this entertaining film. Good acting by all.
