Alterman asks why President Obama has been unable to deliver on the promise of the 2008 campaign. He argues that while Obama's compromises have disappointed many of his supporters, his failure is primarily due to a political system that stymies democracy when voters choose progressive change.

I enjoyed this author's previous book, What Liberal Media [and BTW, the top 100 newspapers and the five or six major media companies have the same Big Four major shareholders: Vanguard Group, BlackRock, State Street and Fidelity, or FMR LLC], he really passes wind with this book!
To excuse President Obama, who has dramatically increased the number of foreign visa replacement workers in the USA, who has granted immunity from prosecution for fraudclosure to the banksters, who has granted immunity from prosecution to the GMO industry [Monsanto, et cetera], who refuses to declassif the 28-pages redacted from the 9/11 Commission, the CIA torture report, which he asked the Senate committee to hold onto, and on and on and on, but worst of all today, Obama is pursuing the same exact strategy in Syria which Carter did in Afghanistan: throwing in with Saudi Arabia and supporting the Sunni extremists there against the Assad government [Carter with the Saudis supported the destabilization of the once-secular government of Afghanistan, leading to the mujahedeen murdering all the secularists - - the professionals, academics, artists, et cetera - - before even ever engaging the Soviet solders, et cetera - - which ended up with numerous lives lost in various terrorist attacks, from those embassies in Africa bombed to today's San Bernardino attacks - - probably even worse outcomes with Obama's strategy - - when regime change is most required in Saudi Arabia, which uses the same exact textbooks in its schools as ISIS does in theirs!].

Although the title and cover photograph both feature President Obama, he's really not the focus of the book. Instead, the author critiques Congress and other features of our government which obstruct more than facilitate change. It's probably an important book but, to be honest, I just couldn't get into it. It was all rather overwhelming. Maybe someone else will have more luck with it.
