I learned a lot from this book, comparing the lives of student who are legal and those who are trying to become legal was very enlightening. I feel even stronger that we need a path to citizenship for those undocumented people who are here, to have them live for decades in a hopeless underground while they are working and paying taxes is just not right. We also need to have a rational immigration policy and border security but these people in limbo almost have to break the law in order to work, rent an apartment, get a library card, buy a car, ride a bus, go to the dr, go to college, etc.
Even thought it is a few years old it is more relevant than it was when it was written.

Even after the Dream Act, it seems that this topic is just becoming more relevant rather than less. The comparative struggles of immigrants to first generation Americans is stark. These four young women were so similar. They were all high achieving and basically lived the "American" lifestyle. The difference was that two were here legally and two were brought here as very young children.

This non-fiction book follows four young Mexican-American women. Two were born in the United States and two were undocumented. These women are all high-achieving students but the undocumented students must face an uncertain future as they struggle to afford college and advance in American culture. An eye-opening read that takes place in Denver.
