The follow-up to their successful debut, the south London trio, Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim and Jamie Smith release Coexist, and a new perspective. Where xx lent in close to whisper in your ear, Coexist gazes warmly in your eyes. Much has happened to lead to this point: most pertinently, they'e grown up.

Anthony says it all in the comment previous to mine- The xx uses a soft, and quite un-grand sound to capture heavy emotions. When I listen to this album, I feel like the artists understand me. It sounds so angsty, but it's true. I like that their sound is consistent from song to song- the entire album flows very well. I like every song as much as the last (though I have taken a special liking to Reunion). If you're looking for something quiet, easy to stomach, and yet emotional and relatable, I would highly recommend The xx.

The XX avoids the sophomore slump by resisting the temptation to go big and sticking with what works - simple, contained songs that create strong emotions and atmosphere even without big hooks or heavy production.
