In his mid-30s, Abe clings to the trappings of his adolescence, including his collection of toys and action figures adorning his bedroom. Still living with his parents, Abe works for his increasingly disappointed father and feels resentful of his brother's success as a California doctor. When Abe meets Miranda, whose personal and professional disasters have sent her scrambling back to the safety of her parents' home, he sees what he thinks is a chance at true love.

A great film by a great director. 5 stars.

Very darkly funny, about a guy who never quite matures and moves into the world of adult relationships.

What is one to make of Todd Solondz at this point? The auteur of the woebegone, the schlep, the loser. He has kept treading the same path, with slight variations for years, now….and even the actors who play his protagonists have gone on to greater glory (even Heather Matarazzo is able to be cast these days). I guess one can liken him to a much less commercial, much more poetic Judd Apatow, and if you think of him that way, his career becomes much more satisfying. Unlike Apatow, Solondz knows that there are no easy, pat answers for his oddballs, and they are extremely unlikely to triumph. The only issue is that the schadenfreude in these stories does become a little tedious, as it is played upon far too few notes. (SIGH) I guess, in the end, it’s good to know that even round-shouldered creeps have their champions. The only question is, “how many more do we need to know, Todd”?

Bizarre and confusing with no real direction.

Not as bad as other recent Solondz films but doesn't really go anywhere either.
