Deserts are the most haunting of all the Earth's landscapes. Sometimes they are thought of as vast empty spaces that dwarf and test the human spirit, but that view is wrong in so many ways.

What a waste of beautiful photography.
The entire first segment is religious; Jesus ate here, he washed his face there, tour buses filled with pilgrims, testimonials about the religious thrill of sipping colas while being driven along Jesus' favourite evening walk.
Even the segment on South America is about miracles from Our Lady of Guadalupe rather than the geology and wildlife of the desert. I don't see any reason to watch the rest of the segments.
If you want to see a religious show, pick this. If you are interested in nature and culture, search for shows by BBC and featuring David Attenborough.

There is so much to recommend this excellent series I won’t waste my superlatives, but if they set out to portray the exact interface between geography & human endeavor, in all of its harshness & grace, they accomplished it marvelously. I’d never heard of the Thar before, either, & that hour long episode (1 of 6) was easily my favorite, noting among other things the scientists struggling to restore the camels of the region to their former glory, as a wealth of resources & a friend to mankind. Come at me, Jeopardy!™…! Beautiful program. CR
