Captain William D. Stanaforth is on a one-way mission to Mars, and though the entire world is watching him, he is completely alone in a dark and distant sea of stars. When an astronaut on a parallel mission encounters mechanical failure, Stanaforth risks everything to save her. As the two form an undeniably strong bond from their respective ships, the physical journey takes a toll on Stanaforth's life-sustaining systems, forcing him to make impossible choices.

Seemed promising but turned out to be pretty dull.

Clearly a low budget movie, which is painfully boring. Although the plot had promise, in the end it missed the mark by a mile. I do not recommend. Read a book instead.

Cool movie. Brave but kinda crazy man. Going into that unknown so willingly!

Maybe like Alien this film is not first & foremost a Sci-Fi film (Alien being a horror film in a SF setting) -- maybe this film is a .... droll psychological claustrophobic drama thriller on a space ship with an otherwise great actor??? For the first 30 minutes of this film I had a difficult time giving it my attention. During the second 30 minutes I played it in the background while working on my laptop. I fast-forwarded through the last 30 minutes. For me the best part of this film was seeing the credits zip by, the disc pop out of my DVD player, and return back into its case.

There are many occupations that are 99% boredom and 1% dramatic. It appears that being an astronaut going to Mars is 100% boredom and this movie captures that perfectly. It is perfectly boring and tedious to watch. I kept thinking of the question of why such a stupid decision to send an one man crew in the first place when that person could be incapacitated in a thousand ways. Most Mars missions are planned for at least 3 or 4 crew members. Oh wait you want to have a contrived drama about going mad in space when mission specialist would have figured that out years before. This is a movie only for people who have a lot of patience and time on their hands like someone on a 2 year trip to Mars.

Painfully boring.

Strange movie, it's very slow moving. I'm sure many will like and more dislike

Well, it has more action than Moon, but it is still one man in a spaceship slowly going insane on his year-long trip to Mars. This is nothing like The Martian as far as applied scientific reasoning, fighting for survival, and tension. It feels much longer than the running time, and is only for those of us who are hardcore sci-fi fans and need to have seen everything. There is about 4 minutes of pretty cool CGI, the ship is nothing new, and "conflict" is just the standard "survive in space."
