"Stirringly evocative, thought-provoking, and often jaw-dropping, The Operator ranges across SEAL Team Operator Robert O’Neill’s awe-inspiring four-hundred-mission career that included his involvement in attempts to rescue “Lone Survivor” Marcus Luttrell and abducted-by-Somali-pirates Captain Richard Phillips and culminated in those famous three shots that dispatched the world’s most wanted terrorist, Osama bin Laden. In these pages, O’Neill describes his idyllic childhood in Butte, Montana; his impulsive decision to join the SEALs; the arduous evaluation and training process; and the even tougher gauntlet he had to run to join the SEALs’ most elite unit. After officially becoming a SEAL, O’Neill would spend more than a decade in the most intense counterterror effort in US history. For extended periods, not a night passed without him and his small team recording multiple enemy kills—and though he was lucky enough to survive, several of the SEALs he’d trained with and fought beside never made it home. The Operator describes the nonstop action of O’Neill’s deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan, evokes the black humor of years-long combat, brings to vivid life the lethal efficiency of the military’s Tier One units, and reveals firsthand details of the most celebrated terrorist takedown in history. A very inspiring story. I appreciate the dedication and hard work of the military. This was a wonderful book written from a SEALs perspective. I highly recommend. 

Rob tells his side of the story of his career in the Navy SEALs. His story includes 2 of the very high profile missions, which have been broadcasted in the news, he was on and the details of what occurred. He also goes into details from the intense selection of making it as a SEAL to balancing family life while on deployment.

As always, it's humbling to read stories of individuals who willingly and voluntarily step up to the plate and take on difficult and dangerous missions for this country.

before you buy into this guy's stories about how heroic he is, search for "Rob O'Neil lie" on google. Gory details are included in this larger article on the team: https://theintercept.com/2017/01/10/the-crimes-of-seal-team-6/. Maybe he himself is not feeling so great about himself. His SEAL team has disowned him and he was arrested for DUI and could not give a speech afterward at Montana State University-Bozeman last year: http://mtstandard.com/crime-and-courts/msu-to-pay-o-neill-s-canceled-speaking-fee-from/article_16f7be00-7714-56e4-bd01-4ec5cdc23eac.html.

SPOILER ALERT: OBL has his head turned into an dug-out canoe at the end. I'm still not sure if this author or Mark Owen (of "No Easy Day") is telling the truth. I guess it doesn't really matter. I enjoyed the book.
