This was not a great production. The acting was good, the costumes and settings fine, but there's something not-working in the adaptation itself. It's not particularly entertaining, compelling, or engaging. Pass.

Interesting period drama. I did a lot of fast forwarding with this dvd. It was okay.

The acting was first rate and the villain was the most intriguing of any I've ever encountered. And this from someone who has read almost all of Dickens' novels. Very edge of seat suspense-Hitch himself would be impressed, but then I have always enjoyed Masterpiece Theater. Another Masterpiece Theater favorite with a great villain is Clarissa.

A decent effort to turn this great classic into a movie but if you haven't read the book, you might have difficulty tracking all the twists of turns of this mystery thriller.

Damn straight, straitgate. I was so disappointed, given the acting talent. W-w-w-why did people like Wilby, Redgrave, and Richardson get involved; surely they were old enough to know better? Only see this first if you haven't read the novel, don't intend to, and breathe primarily through your mouth.

I give this a one star having read Collins' novel. I can't believe they had the nerve to even call this "The Woman in White" and not "A New Take on the Woman in White" or something. If Collins were alive he'd litigate. I understood before watching that in order to fit a 500+ page novel into 2 hours they'd have to abridge greatly. However, what I was not expecting was that they'd COMPLETELY change the storyline!! I don't want to give anything away for the viewer or the reader but this is definitely NOT the Collins' story. And I don't mean slight changes in plot or leaving out a character. I mean fundamental changes in the structure of the story and the relationships between characters. The acting was OK but the despoilment of the novel ruined it for me within 30 minutes.

I was unfamiliar with this film (and novel), and found myself surprisingly involved in the story. Good acting and suspenseful plot twists.

surprisingly good movie. Both women were very attractive. And I was glad to see both had survived the ordeal.
