"A dazzling contemporary novel that interweaves the lives of a Russian mistress and the young French painter who falls in love with her. Set in the South of France, London, and Paris, a gorgeous, innocent mistress of a Russian oligarch gradually finds independence via her own efforts and through her friendship with the artist son of a world-renowned painter and his devoted muse/now restaurateur mother, reminiscent of Picasso and La Colombe D'or in St-Paul-de-Vence. A glamorous, elegant story that will resonate with Steel's audience, with an element of intrigue that will keep readers turning the pages"-- Provided by publisher.
Natasha, the innocent and loyal mistress of Russian oligarch Vladimir Stanislas, strikes up a friendship with gifted artist Theo Luca that opens her eyes to the freedoms she can never have with Vladimir.

I love Danielle Steele’s books and have never been disappointed after reading. This is a story about love, fate, denial, luxury, obsession, and memories. Natasha is the mistress of Vladimir Stanislas, a Russian billionaire, who feels money can buy anything. Theo is the son of Lorenzo Luca, a famous painter. Maylis, Theo’s mother, refuses to sell any of Lorenzo’s paintings. After a huge offer, a painting is sold. Theo is obsesses with memories of Natasha and with this obsession, paints her from memory. You will be sailed on Vladimir’s ship over the world. Secrets will be unveiled about stolen paintings. Just when you believe that there is nothing else that could happen, it does. Fast read that will have you feeling good at the end.

Danielle Steel's books are generally Women Centric and "The Mistress" is no exception. Though there are important male characters there is no doubt that this novel is about Natasha - Vladimir's mistress. The characters are somewhat 'larger than life' and yet predictable. A quick, easy read; not literature by any means.
