I enjoyed this film's production qualities, sound, editing, lighting, and story. All top notch. Often, a film that features present time/past time, which this one does, there would be parts of the film that are confusing to the audience. But in this film, it is done so well, that as you watch, you know where you are at all times.
Vanessa Redgrave is superb, as always. Rooney Mara plays these 'tortured' maiden roles like no one else I know. Eric Bana, psychiatrist, Jack Reynor, and Theo James all play a part in this woman's story. I enjoyed this very much. I don't want to give away the ending, but I think it's worth the watch.

Good story, well acted. Vanessa Redgrave is excellent (as always). It started out slowly but definitely built up it's pace. I was very glad that I stuck with it. The ending was a bit unbelievable but the rest was very believable.

Rather heartbreaking film about a woman committed to a mental institution for life because she was identified as a nymphomaniac in 1942 by her local priest who apparently was in love with her. She married an English pilot during WWII and has a baby. Her husband goes missing and her child is killed and she is blamed for the child’s death. She keeps notes and memories of her life in her bible and a new psychologist arrives at the hospital which is closing - he looks into her past. Vanessa Redgrave plays the elder Rose in the mental hospital and Mara Rooney plays the younger Rose both are excellent. Now I need to read the book it is based on since the movie is a bit unclear about the creepy priest and who concocted the story about the baby’s death. Not action packed but emotionally intriguing.
