Denzel Washington returns as Robert McCall, serving an unflinching justice for the exploited and oppressed - but this time it's personal.

Equalizer 2 is a well-produced, but very much by-the-numbers action movie. Robert McCall, played by Denzel Washington, is out to avenge the death of his friend Susan, yet there is little sense of his rage, or of what his friend meant to him, as he conducts his business rather mechanically. Oh, and while he goes about his grim task, our hero still has time to help damsels in distress, at-risk youth, and Holocaust survivors. Bill Pullman puts in an appearance, but I'm not really sure why. He might have been in the first movie. I don't remember. Denzel did enough to earn his pay cheque, but that's all. I am so over this senior citizen as action hero thing. Hopefully, he is too.

So Jupiter has a group of moons that are retrograde in their rotation, which means they orbit from east to west incited of west to east. I thought to myself, hmmmmm, what a weird thing to occur. Why does it do that? What is the benefit of doing such a thing? What exactly does the word ancillary mean? Telling me that this is all part of some kind of divine calculation a part of a prophecy of some kind maybe?! Just when you least expect it something so mundane appears to you and you think to your self, MY GOD?! what a trite and vapid existence I live. I cant even drink milk. WHY? because I don't like the way it tastes. So I spend my days living an honest life trying to cope with the fact that sometimes, you just want someone, ANYONE?! to ask you if you want a girls toy, or a boys toy in your happy meal.

As action movies go the action does move at a good pace. But therein lies my complaint. The action overrides the reason for the action. Sure the bad guys kill McCall's friend but the reason why they kill her is unclear.

The environment of the climax was reminiscent of the climax of Patriot Games. Maybe this is so because Mace Neufeld was involved in both productions. It does seem a trifle contrived.

Some of the best non-action scenes take place in the backseat of McCall's Lyft car.

The idea of personal vengeance for McCall was not a big part of the original TV series. He was always seeking justice for the underdog and victimized. I would hope the producers go back that idea because it was impersonal business McCall would blindside the tormentors.

I thought the first movie was way better.

As good as the first one. Wow!

I was shocked to hear that this was Denzel Washington's first sequel, but I guess he needed a script that outdid the original. I loved the first movie, but we learned so much more about his character in this movie that this one really does surpass the original. There's some brutality in the movie, so it's not for everyone. I think the brutality suits the movie, though, and isn't just there the sake of being gruesome. Love Denzel, love the movie.

In the vein of Taken, Denzel Washington is a one man wrecking crew. The action is fast and visceral. It is an enjoyable action movie, that I would say is rather unmemorable, except there is one scene in about the middle of the movie where Denzel gets to dig in and show off his acting chops and it blew me away and for that reason this movie has stuck with me more so than most action movies.
