If you want an easy to read history of the end of World War II in the Pacific, this will do the trick. It covers most of the main points, although the treatment of some of these is shallow, and a few important ones are ignored. It also contains a number of stories that do not relate to the main thread of the book - for example, the story of medic Desmond Moss and his incredible heroism on Okinawa (portrayed in the movie HACKSAW RIDGE) is very well done and interesting, but has nothing to do with the main story of the book. I read this book as a challenge because I am not a fan of O'Reilly. So, I was somewhat surprised to see that most of the book covered the story factually, if shallowly. I do question his assertions that MacArthur actually sent US troops into China (that is, he deliberately invaded Chinese soil in spite of orders to the contrary) during the Korean War. I notice in the references at the end of the book that he does not cite a single, specific title regarding the Korean War period of MacArthur's career.
