I enjoyed learning about a culture I had never heard of and about the finer points of tea processing. There were some fairy tale aspects to the plot. Especially the marriage to the wealthy and inexplicably available recycling tycoon. The cancer cure revealed near the end is also a stretch of the reader's credulity. The coming of age themes for both mother and daughter are the best part of the story. Both women had to overcome great obstacles and learn to rely on themselves. Obstacles of poverty and ignorance contrasted nicely with the barriers set up by privilege and affluence. We knew they would find each other in the end and it was nicely done, despite the predictability.
