What starts as a simple pair of statements, turns into a dizzying, laugh-out-loud, tongue twister as a greyhound and groundhog play with one another. Even experienced readers will likely stumble as repeating words become ever more tangled; the infectious fun and increasing pace nudges you to go faster too. To prevent an oral presentation from devolving into an utter mess, the author regularly introduces new vocabulary for the mind to grasp, and changes up the meter every few pages. The illustrations themselves follow the same pattern as the words, starting out with a simple image on a cream background, then flowing into a whirlwind of form and beautiful watercolours, before finally ending with a quieter page, matching the exhaustion of these two friends. A Greyhound, A Groundhog is just a fun, rhyming read aloud with some very pretty pictures, perfect for eliciting a few laughs out of any young one.
