The screenplay provides an abundance of clichés and 'relationship babel' lines, the young female detective is me-me-me off-putting, her gruff love-interest 'acts' by glowering at all and sundry, and the whole effort turns unconvincing. Indeed, the last five minutes, which oh so obviously sets us up for season 2, is plainly ridiculous. What is amazing is the difference made when the few adults in this series come on screen. When the camera shifts to Lindsey Coulson, who plays superbly the DI in charge of the investigation, you feel a physical sense of relief. Same thing with Amanda Burton, the scheming matriarch. Bottom line: if you are looking for another 'Line of Duty', keep looking.
