Good beach book. Easy, breezy reading. Just enjoy it and don't examine the plot too closely. While the demands and competitiveness of a celebrity's curated (great word) lifestyle are credible, there are numerous plot lines which aren't even remotely plausible. The book jacket crows: ". . .what Sunshine does amid the ashes of her own destruction may well save her life. "In a world where celebrity is a careful construct, Hello Sunshine is a compelling, funny, and evocative novel about what it means to live an authentic life in an inauthentic age. My hunch is that everyone involved (author, editor, publicist) in this book is living an inauthentic life and lost their authentic selves long, long ago. It doesn't appear anybody did much actual research beyond maybe a weekend or two in the Hamptons, gourmet dinners charged to somebody's expense account, and alcohol-soaked binge-watching of Food Network Star (Food Network gets skewered ~ pun intended). Spoiler alert: the ending is disappointing. I don't get the sense that Sunshine learned much from her fall from grace or her husband's betrayal. Contrary to promotional promise, there wasn't much rising from the ashes.
