Intermediate Readers: Second Grade

As children step up their reading game, their fluency and confidence increase. Encourage your young reader to fully embrace a reader's identity: let them read wherever their heart and curiosity take them, offer books and reading as rewards, suggest they author or illustrate their own books, and continue to read together. Habits of strong readers include PREDICTING what happens next in a book, VISUALIZING the content or characters of a book, CONNECTING the text to other ideas or experiences, asking QUESTIONS about the book, stopping and REREADING when things don't make sense, and SUMMARIZING the book in their own words. Do they have their very own key to unlock the universe (their library card)? Come get one! In fact, collect them from every library district in Colorado; you are not limited to just your county.
