This book is about Oliver Twist, who is an orphan since birth. One day Oliver Twist is getting food from a server at the orphanage where he lives, an terrible place which gives all the orphans very little food. Feeling hungry, Oliver asks for more food, and is hit by the server with a spoon! As a result, Oliver is being sold for 5 pounds to anyone who is willing to buy him, and even worse, there is the threat that Oliver will be hung instead. This book largely follows Oliver on his adventures, making his way through life as an orphan. Though being an orphan is so hard, he gets through it and readers will likely be pleased with the ending.
I like this book very much, and I would recommend it to anybody who loves books; it’s such a great story! I would suggest this book for anyone over 12 years of age, as parts of this book and its themes can be intense. I would personally rate this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars. This book is about Oliver Twist, who is an orphan since birth. There are at least two people walking along a road in a burned America: a father and his son only see the wind blowing the ashes through the air. It’s cold, and when it snows the snow is grey and the sky is so dark it's like nighttime. The only time in the winter that they usually have light is at night from the moon, but it's still so foggy that they can barely see anything. Scavenging for food, they only have each other and a pistol to defend themselves from the lawless and cruel who stalk the road, hunting for their next meal. The father tells the boy stories at night to help him go to sleep, hoping that the boy will fall asleep quickly and not ask too many questions about the past or the future.
I rated this book 4.5 stars because I am personally into gloomy stories, and this book is a beast of a dystopian read. I recommend this book for ages 15 and up, but only if you can handle dark and violent themes, like cannibalism. There are at least two people walking along a road in a burned America: a father and his son only see the wind blowing the ashes through the air. This book is a mystery and thriller. When I first started reading it, it got me hooked on the story, and I used hate mystery books, but I read this one and it was really good! I also like that fact that they added a scary mystery. Winnie Foster is a teenage girl who has a strict mother. Winnie walks to a forest right by her house and meets Jesse Tuck. Jesse is worried that Winnie is very lost and he does not know where Winnie lives, so he takes her home to meet his family, and they are nothing but kind. Little did Winnie know that Jesse’s family is hiding a big powerful secret. Winnie has to choose if she wants to stay with the Tuck family or go back to her mom.
I really liked this book and I would recommend it for kids that are 9 and older. There is also a movie. I read the book before the movie, and I would recommend that if you are interested in reading this or watching it then you should read it first then watch the movie. This book is a mystery and thriller.
